THE ROLE: Natural Forest Management SM will be in charge in developing and implementing conservation strategies, particularly conservation in natural production forests. S/he will be playing key roles in identifying all the resources, data and budget needed for the pre-project development and project implementation, and coordinate relevant staff from Indonesia Program, Asia Pacific, and Global Team. S/he will facilitate all processes of partnership agreement with all potential partners in developing business plans, managing natural forest and lead the implementation of sustainable natural forest management and conservation business in a close collaboration with public and private partners. Natural Forest Management SM will also coordinate training and analyses to best implement organizational measures of success, identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions, innovative scientific methods, analysis, tools and frameworks to address the natural system needs, and builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field. S/he will also coordinate our engagement with local community, support local conservation efforts, negotiate complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and landowners to conserve and protect natural ecosystems. RESPONSIBILITIES: Geographic/programmatic size and scope is that of a large, complex business unit, multiple small to mid-sized business units, division/regional or a large program area spanning parts of multiple states/divisions. Full responsible for leading or co-leading a whole system program. Recruits, retains and manages high quality and effective multi-disciplinary staff with responsibility for support and assisting project implementation Broad management and leadership responsibility for 5+ staff members, both internal and external to the organization. Develops short and long-term strategies and achieves strategic goals and objectives May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. Makes independent strategic decisions frequently based on analysis, ambiguous information, experience and judgment. May require frequent travel domestically and/or internationally and evening and weekend hours. REQUIREMENTS: BA/BS degree and 10 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent knowledge on regulations related to natural forest management in Indonesia Experience in developing long term and annual management plan for natural forest concession Experience in developing and implementing best practices of natural forest management Experience or knowledge in forest-based business development Experience directing a major program or project of strategic importance, including management/supervision of multi-disciplinary teams and meeting deadlines. Experience working with current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and geographic regions. Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance. Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies. Experience negotiating Experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans at the state or country level Multi- lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated. 10-12 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience. Developing practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes. Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives and experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives. Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages. Liaison with government officials Proposal development Politically savvy.
