I am currently studying Environmental Science and Environmental Studies at Iowa State University in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. I chose this double major to act upon my interests of assisting with field studies and research, data collection and GIS, and the policy and planning behind environmental issues.
I have had a previous internship at Clarke Environmental gave me fieldwork experience, taught me how to effectively manage data, and showed me the values of working in the environmental industry. My internship also taught me the discipline of working independently and managing my time efficiently. As a Field Inspection Technician, I spent the majority of my days alone, driving to different sites to take samples. Although I enjoy working with others and in groups, this opportunity taught me to excel in required tasks while managing my own time. This summer, I took two project-based classes through DIS Study Abroad in Scandinavia. I worked with glacier models in Excel based on research we did in Iceland. This greatly improved my Excel knowledge that may be needed when overseeing data collection, organization, and documentation of various planning efforts. I also did ethnographic research on the culture behind waste, improving my attention to detail and interpersonal skills. I am currently taking a class that will give me 90 hours of training through ESRI ArcGIS Pro and I have knowledge policy and other aspects of environmental planning through previous coursework. I know that I will be able to quickly grasp any skills needed for this position due to my interest expressed in the field
